WHY WOMEN SHOULD STOP SAYING THEIR BODIES ARE EMPOWERING by Liv Mathis

Confidence is the word that comes to mind when I’m standing in front of the mirror dripping sweat right after working out. Why? Because I work hard for my body so WHY NOT? Not to say someone who doesn’t work exactly as hard for their body shouldn’t also feel confident when standing in front of the mirror. Why? Because they are human and well that’s just about as hard as it can get somedays. The point is, no one and i truly mean no one should feel belittled to just their physical appearance no matter what it may be. What exactly does “empower” mean? Empower means to give power or authority to; authorize.

Here’s the thing, women in this generation are attempting to inspire other women that they can LEAD just because of their appearance. That as long as you have an up to par physical appearance, you are where you need to be.

Let’s be honest, maybe some people are shy or simply don’t connect with their appearance because they are not where they want to be quite yet. Not everyone has the same body (duh) and not everyone wants to flaunt their body for the whole world or social media to see.

It is one thing to be proud and confident with yourself physically, yet another to be defined by it. It’s like looking at the ocean and having absolutely no idea that it is deep.

When is the last time a female body (or male) invented something, or gave a speech that moved people and changed lives? Physical appearance however beautiful or admirable is not something to be identified by. Our true identity and character are within our spirit. Something so bottomless from within us. Being a leader requires teaching others and what are we teaching others when we say our BODY is giving power and authority? We are teaching young girls and women that your physical appearance, your body, or even your face is the most powerful thing you have.

What we should be teaching one another is to relentlessly follow your dreams, to stay in school, to overcome difficult obstacles.

Empowerment is the wrong word for body positive.
